Natural History Study
Integrated Science 3
Background
In our Island Study, we will learn about the natural history of the Hawaiian Islands. In our study, we will study the biological and geological principles and theories involved in island formation, and we will apply those basic principles and theories to the natural history of that island group.
In addition to the assigned study of the Hawaiian Islands, you are to choose another island to independently research.
Any island's natural history tends to be very unique. Only by examining its unique evolutionary history is it possible to understand its present distinct character. Every change no matter how seemingly insignificant--will have an impact on the island's evolution. While these studies will not focus on island politics, economics, or sociology, it is important to consider the impact of human behavior on the ecology of both the Hawaiian Islands and on your independently researched island or island group.
