Content Emphasis

Plate Tectonics; Volcanism; Igneous Rocks; Lava Chemistry; Isolation; Colonization; Evolutionary Mechanisms; Natural Selection; Evolutionary Genetics; Founder Effect; Genetic Drift; Natural History.

 

(A Unit Test on these concepts and their application in the natural history of islands will represent 10% of the unit grade.)

 

 

General Guidelines

 

 

For each assignment, students are expected to :

  • Read all parts of the reading assignment; this includes titles, graphs and charts, notes in margins, etc. ;
  • Keep notes for the reading section;
  • For the vocabulary words listed, look up the words in the glossary and include definitions in the notes;
  • Be prepared to teach me what you learned from the assignment; you will be receiving a quiz grade for the lesson;
  • Be prepared to turn in written work to be included in file as a work sample; work not requested at the time of the meeting should be kept in an organized binder or file. It may be requested at a later date. It will be useful in reviewing for the final.
  • Pass the chapter tests with a grade no lower than "C".
