Admission Process for AP Courses

will offer two site-based AP courses.
These courses are:
AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION
to be taught
by Patchen Homitz (Thursdays, 1:00-3:00pm)
Criteria
for Admission:
B or better
in previous English course; combined
score of 40 or better on English and Social Studies teachers’ recommendations
(using standardized form);standard met for Direct
Write and Core Literacy Portfolio requirements.
AP ENGLISH LITERATURE & COMPOSITION
to
be taught by Rosemary Eagan, (Mondays, 1:00-3:00pm)
Criteria for Admission: B or better
in previous English course; combined
score of 40 or better on English and Social Studies teachers’ recommendations
(using standardized form). SENIORS ONLY
Students who enroll in either of these courses will receive a summer
reading list with assignments. The assignments will be due on the
first day of class. Any student who has not completed the assignment
will not be allowed to continue in the course.
These courses are designed specifically as preparation for college courses
and the Advanced Placement Test. They are rigorous courses and are not
to be entered into lightly. If you are interested in enrolling, contact
your Core Subject Teacher to obtain the standardized form and to ask
for the required recommendation.
There will be a meeting for students who may be interested in taking
one of these classes on the following dates:
• AP English Language & Composition: Thursday, May
5, 1-2 pm
•
AP English
Literature & Composition: Thursday, May
12, 2-3 pm
For initial entry the fall semester
class will be used; students must maintain a B in the English class immediately
preceding the AP class.
For initial placement, 10th graders
may not have Portfolio results and can therefore be conditionally admitted
on the basis of the other criteria until results are available.
