Admission Process for AP Courses (for 2005-2006)

Tamiscal will offer two site-based AP courses for the 2005-2006 School Year. These courses are:

AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION
to be taught by Patchen Homitz (Thursdays, 1:00-3:00pm)
Criteria for Admission:
B or better in previous English course; combined score of 40 or better on English and Social Studies teachers’ recommendations (using standardized form);standard met for Direct Write and Core Literacy Portfolio requirements.

AP ENGLISH LITERATURE & COMPOSITION
to be taught by Rosemary Eagan, (Mondays, 1:00-3:00pm)

Criteria for Admission: B or better in previous English course; combined score of 40 or better on English and Social Studies teachers’ recommendations (using standardized form). SENIORS ONLY

Students who enroll in either of these courses will receive a summer reading list with assignments. The assignments will be due on the first day of class. Any student who has not completed the assignment will not be allowed to continue in the course.

These courses are designed specifically as preparation for college courses and the Advanced Placement Test. They are rigorous courses and are not to be entered into lightly. If you are interested in enrolling, contact your Core Subject Teacher to obtain the standardized form and to ask for the required recommendation.

There will be a meeting for students who may be interested in taking one of these classes on the following dates:

• AP English Language & Composition: Thursday, May 5, 1-2 pm
• AP English Literature & Composition: Thursday, May 12, 2-3 pm

For initial entry the fall semester class will be used; students must maintain a B in the English class immediately preceding the AP class.

For initial placement, 10th graders may not have Portfolio results and can therefore be conditionally admitted on the basis of the other criteria until results are available.
