INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE AGREEMENT

STUDENT _______________________________ 70013: Physical Education Core 3

I. OBJECTIVES: (What am I going to accomplish?)
In Core 3-4 students begin to analyze the skills used for effective movement and choose physical activities that they want to pursue. They will become water safe, CPR and First Aid certified.

II. ACTIVITIES: (How am I going to accomplish my objectives?)

• Swimming fundamentals: strokes to be covered are crawl, breast, back and butterfly. Students also float, dive, and swim under water.
• Read selected chapters from Moving for Life: chapters 3, 4, 5, & 6
• For water safety, students learn water survival techniques, basic lifesaving skills, and personal and group water safety precautions.
• Students will take the American Red Cross Approved courses for CPR and First Aid. Students will become CPR certified and will receive certificates at the end of each of these courses.
• Students must log 45 hours of swimming activities.

III. EVALUATION: (How my objectives will be evaluated)

• Sportfolio component: maintain an organized portfolio, which contains all class work listed below.
• Skills component: performance of activities: swimming as described above, CPR and First Aid.
• Oral component: a minimum of one oral presentation related to the instruction of a swimming stroke, CPR or First Aid.
• Written component: a minimum of two written works in the form of journals, personal experiences, skill descriptions, fitness or wellness plans, history of sport and fitness, CPR and First Aid.
• A minimum of two outside readings or current events related to sports, fitness, health, CPR or First Aid.
• Technology component: a minimum of one activity that requires the use of technology.

One semester.

Textbook: Moving for Life

Grades and credits will be reported at the quarter and end of the semester.
