INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE AGREEMENT

STUDENT ________________________ COURSE 70121 : COMPUTER PROGRAMMING 1 - fall section

I. Student Learning Outcomes
All Tamiscal courses share the purpose of helping the student read, write, speak, and solve problems effectively. Computer Literacy is designed to teach the student to use technology as a tool to access information, analyze/solve problems, and communicate ideas. These courses are designed for students with a strong interest in Programming and its applications. Any of the following languages may be studied: Basic, Visual Basic, C++, Visual C++, Java, Perl.

Students will:

develop understanding of the basic concepts of programming
apply these goals in a particular programming languages
read and interpret programming code
write and format clear, logical code
trouble shoot and debug programs
use arrays, loop, conditional statements, decision statements, recursive functions, strings
create modular programs

II. Activities
This course uses a combination of lectures, demonstrations, text readings and assignments. A significant amount of time is doing hands-on work on the computer. Students will work independently with individualized instruction as appropriate.

III. Resources
Students will use current software, textbooks and tutorials (both in print and online).

IV. Assessment
Students will be assessed through a variety of means including practice assignments, quizzes and tests.

V. Duration
The agreement is effective until the end of the current semester.

VI. Progress Monitoring
Progress will be monitored at weekly meetings; therefore, attendance is required.

Grades and credits will be reported at the quarter and end of the semester.
