TIME MANAGEMENT
- Start by completing the weekly schedule form
provided by your core teacher. Find a “system” that works
for you to schedule your time and meet all obligations: calendars
— daily, weekly, monthly; post-its, TO DO lists, Tamiscal Student
Day Planner etc. Build in incentives.
- Goal is to make the most efficient use of your
24-hour day and
still have free time to enjoy.
APPOINTMENTS
- Students need to attend every appointment and
class with all teachers each week. Please make TAMISCAL
appointments/classes a top priority when scheduling personal appointments.
Due to teachers’ full schedules, rescheduling
is very difficult and often not possible.
- If a student is sick, parents should notify the
office (945 - 3750). Within 24 hours, a parent or friend should drop
off completed work and pick up the next week's assignments. These assignments
are in the file tray on the bookcase in the Core Subjects Room 8.
- If the next appointment day falls on a holiday, the student will
receive a two-week assignment.
- Appointments with core teachers for two or more
subjects are typically one hour. Math classes and labs are
one hour each. Science classes are always 2 hours once a week. Photography
and ceramics are 2–3 hours once a week. Computer Literacy is a one
hour class once a week.
ASSIGNMENTS
- Assignments = attendance; a student who arrives with no work has
essentially “cut” school
for the entire week in that subject.
- Missed assignments in Independent Study will
not only lower the grade, but also the credit received. Credits will have to be made up
in following semesters. The problem doesn’t “go away” — it
can jeopardize graduation. Continued problems in this area suggest
that the student may not be suited to the independent study delivery
system.
