Social Studies Powerpoint Assignment

For this assignment, you will create a slide presentation about an historical figure.  Look through the chapters of the text that you will be using this semester and select a person who interests you. The choice is YOURS. If you need some help with Powerpoint, look at these Powerpoint tips and these online tutorials:
Tutorial 1  or Tutorial 2

If you would like some peer tutoring ask your master teacher who is available.

  • If you are studying World or American History, select a person who lived during the years you will be studying this semester.
  • If you are studying American Government, select a founder, a political philosopher, an important president, a Supreme Court justice, a civil rights figure, or get a start on Mock Senate by selecting the U.S. senator you would like to portray.
  • If you are studying World Cultures, select a famous person from a part of the world that intrigues you.
  • If you are studying Economics, choose an economist. (The text isn't too helpful for this.  Some suggestions are Adam Smith, John Kenneth Galbraith, John Maynard Keynes, Karl Marx, Milton Freidman, Allan Greenspan).
  • If you are studying Social Issues, choose a contemporary trendsetter.
      1. Plan your presentation.
      2. Your research should include at least 3 on-line sources.
      3. Your presentation should consist of at least five slides.  Ideas for slide topics include:
        1. a photo gallery.
        2. a slide with a map of your subject's birthplace.
        3. a list of accomplishments.
        4. a family tree slide.
        5. a timeline.
        6. a story or anecdote.
      4. Create a Master Slide with your name and the the subject's name displayed.
      5. Do not copy and paste whole paragraphs.
      6. Each slide must contain at least one of each of the following:
        1.     An image (from a scan, a file or clip art). Learn how to copy an image file from the Internet or scan an image into Photoshop
        2.     Text relevant to the slide topic.
      7. Use a Slide Transition to move from one slide to the next.
      8. Use a Slide Animation to move information onto the screen.
      9. Each slide must have an accompanying notes page. On the notes page:
        1. summarize in greater detail the main points of that particular slide.
        2. site your source using the correct format for citing internet sources.
